Crazy Horse

by Ettore Sottsass jr.
The Crazy Horse table, designed in 1968 by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova, returns to production in 2025. Its slender laminated top is supported by four bold, painted metal legs. The geometric essentiality of the form plays against the dynamic tilt of the legs—true protagonists of this project named after the iconic Parisian cabaret founded in 1951. This piece feels strikingly contemporary and proves that great design continues to tell stories—beyond trends and passing fads.

For those who didn’t have the chance to visit Salone del Mobile 2025 — or just want to relive the dream — here’s your personal tour.

Poltronova’s XS – ExtraSurface wasn’t just an exhibition.
It was a dissolution of the domestic, a shimmering space of drapes, mirrors, and radical memories.
From Superstudio to Sottsass, from Pettena to Hollein — a landscape of icons in constant flux.
No longer a home. Not quite a museum.
But a tactile fiction that still lingers, long after the fair is wrapped up.

XS is over. But it keeps resonating.

XS = EXTRA SOTTSASS

More than fifty years later, two icons by Ettore Sottsass return to the Poltronova catalog: “After seventeen years, Ettore is still missed… so we thought, together with Studio Sottsass, of bringing back these two pieces: the Califfo sofa from 1964 and the Crazy Horse table from 1968. They’re simple and strong, as if they were designed yesterday.”

XS is an exhibition presenting a selection of Poltronova’s iconic designs — like Ultrafragola by Ettore Sottsass jr., 1970 — alongside something unexpected. Are you ready?

🪞⚡️🍓 Ultrafragola mirror/lamp, with its sinuous profile that suggests long wavy hair, belongs to the “The Grey Furniture” series of complete bedroom and living room furnishings designed by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova and presented at the third edition of Eurodomus in 1970. With the exception of Ultrafragola, the models never got beyond the prototype phase.
