On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, Chloé presents an exclusive re-edition of the Tomato chair (1970), designed by French designer Christian Adam.

Now brought back into production in collaboration with the designer’s heirs, the Tomato is developed and produced by Poltronova, a historic voice of Italian Radical design. This exclusive edition for Chloé marks the first step in its contemporary reintroduction, anticipating its future inclusion in the Poltronova catalogue.
The Tomato emerges from the radical climate that, between the late 1960s and early 1970s, challenged the foundations of rationalist modernism. Like other contemporary Poltronova projects – Joe, Superonda, Safari – it rejects the traditional typology of seating, assuming a soft and deliberately anti-functionalist form in which comfort intertwines with an expressive and symbolic dimension.
The use of polyurethane allows for an unprecedented formal freedom, bringing the project closer to an almost sculptural practice. More than a functional object, the Tomato operates as a critical device, capable of reflecting new ways of inhabiting space and a distance from bourgeois conventions.

It is precisely within this tension between design and imagination that the object retains its relevance today.
Originally produced in limited numbers during the 1970s, the Tomato is now a highly sought-after collector’s piece. This re-edition respects the integrity of the original design, reinterpreting it through contemporary manufacturing techniques.
Through the vision of Chloé’s Creative Director, Chemena Kamali, the chair resonates with the current sensibility of the French fashion house, which recognizes its organic quality, tactility, and a language of softness, fluidity, and ease.

Crafted in soft, naturally tanned leather in four colour variations – cream, cognac, sand, and black – the re-edition brings renewed definition to its sculptural form through material and colour.
