Un sistema di seduta morbido e monumentale, concepito come un paesaggio artificiale abitabile: un gruppo di elementi imbottiti —utilizzabili in una configurazione composta oppure liberamente sparsi nell’ambiente— simili a rocce, che emergono da un suolo immaginario in cui materia e decorazione si fondono. Il rivestimento, sviluppato dalla stessa Bethan Laura Wood, nasce dall’esperienza di una residenza in un palazzo veneziano, dove nel 2010 la designer rimase colpita dall’infinita varietà dei pavimenti in terrazzo. Da questo ricordo prende forma un tessuto esclusivo, in cui frammenti di gemme sembrano liberarsi dall’impasto per posarsi sulla superficie. Terrazzo Quarry traduce la superficie in volume e il pattern in paesaggio, superando i confini tra bidimensione e tridimensione, tra illusione e struttura, invitando a interagire, arrampicarsi, sostare. Un terrazzo “super fake”, come lo definisce la designer, estratto da un paesaggio psichedelico che richiama la visione radicale propria dell’archivio Poltronova: una topografia immaginaria che celebra la materia come esperienza, gioco e narrazione.

A world premiere that bridges past and present, reaffirming Poltronova’s role as a living laboratory of radical imagination.

From the Terrazzo Quarry at the Design Museum to the cover of Door Magazine, Bethan keeps inspiring us with her vibrant, playful vision.

— Designed for the Platform exhibition, Terrazzo Quarry is a interactive soft sculpture that show cases the Terrazzo pattern developed for Poltronova.
Giant rocks extrude out from the ground blurring the line between 2D and 3D pattern and form inviting the public to sit lean and explore their soft forms. Bethan decided to create a super fake terrazzo who’s precious stones could have been mined from the psychedelic landscape that many of the icon designs from Poltronova’s catalogue evoke.

Bethan Laura Wood’s residency in a Venetian palazzo in 2010 inspired a kaleidoscopic terrazzo pattern. The precious stones, freed from the floor and landscape, are reinterpreted in a printed fabric for Poltronova, offering a unique tactile and visual experience.
