What happens when the domestic landscape dissolves—what remains?
Poltronova returns to the Salone del Mobile with XS, an installation exploring the threshold between design and vision, between function and dematerialization. An opportunity to showcase its iconic collection alongside new releases.
From April 8 to 13, the Tuscan brand will be a key player at the fair with a setup revealed as an unstable, layered landscape where surfaces do not merely cover but—just as the radical avant-gardes of the ’60s and ’70s taught us—narrate and generate space.
XS is a container of many meanings. Primarily, it stands for ExtraSurface, where hypersensitive surfaces guide the design of the installation, establishing a dialogue between Poltronova’s products and the Supersurfaces of Superstudio, the Neutral Surfaces of Archizoom, and the magical ones of Ettore Sottsass.
Under the creative direction of Donatello D’Angelo, Poltronova continues this exploration, transforming the exhibition space into an undomestic landscape—an environment that rejects the functional order of the home to explore new perceptions of dwelling.
The display unfolds through reflective and fragmented planes, embossed panels that break up the light, curtains and drapes that create unstable depths. A matter in tension, in constant mutation. In this scenario, Poltronova’s iconic pieces are not mere displayed objects but sensitive presences, elements that rewrite the concept of domestic space.

XS is also…
ExtraSoft
Gianni Pettena’s Rumble sofa gets a new soul: its modular structure is dressed in white panno casentino fabric, enhancing the play of deconstructed volumes in a dialogue between softness and architecture.
ExtraSymbolism
The Mitzi sofa, designed by Hans Hollein, makes its debut to the general public with its distinctive érable burlwood finish. An object that challenges the dichotomy between function and symbol.
ExtraSmooth
The Saratoga sofa, by Lella and Massimo Vignelli, gains new tactile details: its iconic cushions are now clad in soft nubuck leather, available in three shades.
ExtraSmall
Poltronova embraces the world of collectibles with its first series of realistic miniatures. Sofo, Rumble, Safari, and Superonda become (almost) pocket-sized in faithful 1:8 scale reproductions.
ExtraSottsass
More than fifty years later, two icons by Ettore Sottsass return to the Poltronova catalog: “After seventeen years, Ettore is still missed… so we thought, together with Studio Sottsass, of bringing back these two pieces: the Califfo sofa from 1964 and the Crazy Horse table from 1968. They’re simple and strong, as if they were designed yesterday.” (Roberta Meloni, Director of Centro Studi Poltronova, 2025)

Alongside the novelties, the timeless classics:
- Ultrafragola, the luminous mirror by Ettore Sottsass jr.
- Mies, the seating by Archizoom Associati.
- Gherpe and Passiflora, the iconic lamps by Superstudio.
- Joe, the legendary armchair with the Joe Ball footrest, and Cessato Allarme, the coat rack—all by De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi.

The Centro Studi Poltronova is present at Palazzo Bovara for the exhibition ALCHEMICA, curated by Patricia Urquiola. The installation features a composition of two complete SAFARI sofas (Archizoom Associati), specially upholstered in custom violet eco-fur for the occasion, and the PASSIFLORA table lamps (Superstudio).
For the 2025 Milano Design Week, Elle Decor intertwines its vision with the metaphor of alchemy—an ancient practice exploring the transformation of matter as both a physical process and a symbol of growth and change. The exhibition is structured around the three fundamental stages of the alchemical process—Nigredo, Albedo, and Rubedo—each represented through spaces evoking the most symbolic rooms of the home.

CANTON Franco Raggi
An invitation to discover Franco Raggi (Milan, 1945), Italian architect and designer who, over his fifty-year career, collaborated with the Radical Design movement and designed objects for many Italian companies, including Poltronova. The exhibition journeys through the most significant milestones of his work—from product design to installation, from interiors to drawings, not forgetting his editorial work and his contributions to the debate on architecture’s role in society. On display is the Canton wooden bench, designed by Raggi in 1988 for Poltronova and reissued in the original beech/black version in 2020, followed by two new color combinations in 2023: red & green, and blue & orange.

Rethinking movement as a design action. This is the aim of the exhibition, which organizes objects from the Triennale’s collection into ten thematic sections representing the constants of Italian design. The placement of the pieces—including Poltronova icons such as the Ultrafragola mirror by Ettore Sottsass Jr., the Gherpe lamp by Superstudio, and the Mies armchair by Archizoom Associati—within movable shelving and specially designed supports offers a fresh experience, transforming the museum into a “warehouse” that reflects the richness and complexity of Italian design.

Centro Studi Poltronova takes part in the major group exhibition BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, promoted by ADI Design Museum and dedicated to the relationship between art and industry over more than a century of Italian creativity.
On display, three of its most iconic pieces: the mirror/lamp Ultrafragola by Ettore Sottsass jr., the Gherpe lamp by Superstudio, and the Sanremo armchair by Archizoom Associati.
A tribute to the Italian design’s ability to merge aesthetics and function, imagination and material, through visual languages that have shaped the identity of the 20th century and beyond.
