✱ HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF RADICAL DESIGN?

On December 4, 1966, inside the small Galleria Jolly 2 in Pistoia, a group of young architects from Florence’s experimental architectural scene came together for an exhibition called Superarchitettura — around the newly founded Archizoom Associati and the emerging Superstudio.

It would become one of the foundational moments of Italian Radical Design.

The date matters. Exactly one month earlier, on November 4, 1966, Florence had been devastated by the great flood. Against this extraordinary backdrop, a new generation was beginning to question the cultural, architectural and social models it had inherited.

Superarchitettura brought Pop imagery, mass production, consumption, colour and parody into architecture. Its manifesto spoke of “superproduction, superconsumption, the supermarket, the superman and super petrol”: design was no longer simply about function, but a way of questioning the world around it.

In 2007, for Poltronova’s 50th anniversary, Centro Studi Poltronova faithfully reconstructed the historic exhibition, working from archival documentation and in dialogue with the knowledge surrounding its original protagonists.

Against the conventions of the bourgeois interior, Superarchitettura imagined another way of inhabiting space — one shaped by mass culture, Pop imagery, consumption and the contradictions of contemporary life.
Its manifesto spoke of the architecture of “super production” and “superconsumption”: an exaggerated language for an increasingly exaggerated world.

Archizoom Associati — founded by Andrea Branzi, Gilberto Corretti, Paolo Deganello and Massimo Morozzi — and the architects around the emerging Superstudio challenged the idea that architecture and design should simply provide elegant solutions.

◿ MIES BY ARCHIZOOM

Designed by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova in 1969, the Mies armchair begins with an unexpected idea: turning a material associated with industrial conveyor belts into a place to sit.

A strip of natural para rubber, strong and elastic, is stretched across a geometric chrome-plated steel structure, reducing the conventional armchair to a few essential elements. In deliberate contrast with the industrial character of the seat, the headrest is upholstered in ponyskin.
The name Mies emphasizes the resemblance of its rigorous structure to the architecture of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, conceived as a tribute to the great master who died in the same year, 1969.

Alongside the armchair, Poltronova presented something even more unexpected: a matching luminous footrest, combining the same steel structure and ponyskin upholstery with light. Together, the two pieces blur the boundaries between furniture, industrial materials and the domestic landscape.
Born from the experimental language of Archizoom Associati, Mies transforms an industrial component into a provocative piece of furniture: essential in construction, unconventional in material, and unmistakably Poltronova.

✧ Everyday object. Larger than life.

Meet Joe.

Designed by De Pas, D’Urbino and Lomazzi for Poltronova in 1970, Joe transforms one of the most recognizable objects in American culture, the baseball glove, into an unexpectedly generous place to sit.

Its name is a tribute to Joe DiMaggio, the legendary baseball player who had already transcended sport to become an American cultural icon.
Inspired by the visual language of Pop Art, the designers took something familiar and changed its scale completely. The glove became monumental. The object became furniture. And something associated with the baseball field suddenly entered the domestic interior.

That shift in scale is what gives Joe its unmistakable presence.
Large, soft and immediately recognizable, the chair invites interaction almost instinctively. You don’t simply look at Joe. You climb into it, sit inside it, move with it. Hidden wheels underneath make its oversized form unexpectedly mobile, adding another playful dimension to the experience.

More than five decades after its creation, Joe still has the ability to stop people in their tracks.
Perhaps because it sits somewhere between furniture, sculpture and cultural memory.

Or perhaps because the best design can take something everyone knows and make us see it completely differently.

🐚 GHERPE TABLE LAMP BY SUPERSTUDIO

Designed by Superstudio for Poltronova in 1968, Gherpe is a table lamp that refuses to behave like a conventional lighting object. Its sculptural form recalls the shell of a marine creature, while its use of methacrylate, an industrial material, places it somewhere between the organic and the artificial.

Conceived during Superstudio’s experimental research into objects and domestic space, Gherpe is also an early example of interactive lighting design. Rather than simply providing illumination, the lamp establishes a relationship with the user: its overlapping methacrylate elements filter and transform the light, making Gherpe a luminous presence that changes according to how it is experienced.

Functional yet deliberately unconventional, Gherpe turns a familiar typology—the table lamp—into something ambiguous, playful and almost alive. A small luminous creature that sits within a room rather than simply lighting it.

Produced in Italy by Poltronova, Gherpe remains a distinctive expression of Superstudio’s Radical Design research, where technology, artificial materials and imagination challenged conventional ideas of furniture and everyday objects.

REGOLO: ARMCHAIR / SOFA 📏

Designed by Gianfranco Fini for Poltronova and first introduced in 1975, Regolo is a modular seating system that turns Fini’s fascination with regularity, geometry and seriality into furniture. An armchair, a two-seater or a three-seater sofa: the same essential architectural structure expands according to the space around it.

But Regolo was never conceived to be seen only from the front. Integrated storage compartments run along the sides and back, designed primarily to hold books and objects. This makes the sofa completely accessible from every side and particularly suited to freestanding placement at the center of a room—a piece of furniture that organizes the space around itself rather than simply occupying a wall.

Originally made in pine, today Regolo is reissued by Poltronova with a solid ash wood frame, selected for greater stability and durability, while its generous polyurethane-padded cushions balance the rigorous geometry of the structure with comfort.

Available as a 100 cm armchair, 160 cm two-seater sofa or 220 cm three-seater sofa, Regolo can be upholstered in three different materials: velour, linen or recycled wool. The current palette includes [velour] Mont Blanc / Tuscan sand / wolf gray / light lilac, [linen] flax / celadon / sky blue / old pink and [recycled wool] cream / teal / ocean / taupe

🌼 PASSIFLORA TABLE LAMP BY SUPERSTUDIO

Designed by Superstudio for Poltronova in 1967, Passiflora is a table lamp that imagines a flower growing into a luminous column. Its distorted silhouette floats between the organic and the artificial, challenging the familiar language of lighting and turning an everyday object into an ambiguous presence.

The design originates from a painted cardboard prototype created for the legendary Superarchitettura exhibition in 1966, a manifesto of the emerging Italian Radical Design movement. For Poltronova, cardboard was replaced by a light-permeable material, transforming the original form into the luminous object produced today.

More than an object to illuminate a room, Passiflora creates an atmosphere—transforming light into emotion. Its truncated, almost architectural form plays with scale and perception, while its deliberately artificial interpretation of nature reflects Superstudio’s wider questioning of conventional ideas of objects, interiors and domestic space.

Produced in Italy by Poltronova, Passiflora remains one of the most distinctive examples of Superstudio’s Radical Design, where function, imagery and experimentation come together in a light that is anything but ordinary.

SUPERONDA + FARFALLA🦋

The Superonda sofa by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova, 1967, meets Farfalla, the printed fabric designed by the same group in 1968: two expressions of Archizoom’s irreverent approach to furniture, decoration and mass culture.

With Farfalla, the traditional floral motif gets a deliberately pop disruption. Butterflies and flowers collide with the visual language of American Pop Art and the graphic experiments associated with artists such as Roy Lichtenstein. Andrea Branzi later recalled that the intention was precisely to cross floral decoration with pop imagery inspired by typographic printing, creating a contrast between two apparently incompatible visual worlds.

Applied to Superonda, that contrast becomes even louder. Designed without a conventional frame, legs or backrest, the sofa itself had already challenged the established typology of upholstered furniture. Farfalla adds another layer: pattern is no longer polite decoration, but part of the provocation.

Superonda is composed of two polyurethane elements cut from a single block and can be arranged in different configurations, while Farfalla is today part of Poltronova’s fabric catalogue, produced in polyamide and elastane with a polyurethane midlayer.

Poltronova: MORE THAN MORE

During Milano Design Week 2026, Poltronova extended its presence across the city, entering different contexts and activating new spatial narratives.
At Palazzo Litta, within MoscaPartners Variations – Metamorphosis, an open composition of Poltronova icons inhabited the Sala Rossa as a dynamic, non-hierarchical system.
Not a fixed display, but a constellation of forms, colours and attitudes: objects in dialogue, constructing the space through accumulation, intensity and transformation.

Its image is everywhere. Its meaning is not.

Designed by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova in 1970, Ultrafragola is far more than one of the world’s most recognizable mirrors. It is the only piece from Sottsass’ experimental Mobili Grigi collection to enter serial production, making it the sole accessible witness to one of the designer’s most visionary and uncompromising research projects.

Presented by Poltronova at Eurodomus 3 in Milan in 1970 under the Design Centre label, the collection explored a completely new relationship between furniture, light and space. Produced in fiberglass—a material more commonly associated with boat building than furniture design—and illuminated from within by neon, the Mobili Grigi emerged from darkness like apparitions. Sottsass imagined them as three-dimensional silhouettes, almost immaterial presences capable of transforming the atmosphere of a room rather than simply furnishing it.

Ultrafragola embodies this vision perfectly. Its undulating frame, illuminated by pink neon, echoes what Sottsass himself described as “rounded, swollen forms of feminine origin—or, if you prefer, religious origin (which is the same thing).” Beauty here is never decorative. It becomes symbolic, emotional and almost spiritual.

When first presented, the collection divided critics and audiences alike. Too experimental, too unsettling and deliberately detached from commercial expectations, the Mobili Grigi never achieved commercial success. Most of the pieces remained rare prototypes, while Ultrafragola became the only project to survive in production—eventually growing into one of the defining icons of twentieth-century Italian design.

Today its silhouette is endlessly imitated. Yet what is often reproduced is only its appearance, not the cultural vision behind it. The original Ultrafragola has always been, and continues to be, produced by Poltronova.

Terrazzo can be more than a surface. It can become a world.
Designed by Bethan Laura Wood for Poltronova, Terrazzo Quarry reimagines the familiar language of Venetian terrazzo by transforming it into an inhabitable landscape. Inspired by the extraordinary floors of Venetian palazzi encountered during the designer’s residency in Venice, the project magnifies the tiny gemstone fragments embedded within terrazzo to an architectural scale, turning them into soft hills, sculptural forms and playful monuments.

The result is a modular seating system that constantly evolves. Every element can stand alone or combine with the others, allowing the landscape to shift endlessly through new arrangements and compositions. What was once a decorative pattern becomes a three-dimensional environment that invites exploration, interaction and rest.
Neither simply furniture nor merely sculpture, Terrazzo Quarry blurs the boundaries between object and architecture, ornament and space, transforming a traditional material language into an immersive experience. It is monumental in scale, yet soft in presence; precious like a gemstone, yet open and playful like a landscape waiting to be discovered.

A quarry. A palace. A gemstone. A place to play.

More than a bench. A drawing brought to life.

Canton: wooden bench by Franco Raggi @francoraggistudio, 1988

Some designs don’t need to move to captivate us. They simply wait for the right moment to appear.
Designed by Franco Raggi for Poltronova in 1988, Canton is much more than a bench. It is an architectural idea, born from a simple sketch of two connected squares. By extending that single black line into three dimensions, Raggi transformed a graphic concept into a functional sculpture where geometry becomes the true protagonist.

Created for the entrance of the home, Canton also reflects the way we once lived. Its open side compartments were designed to hold magazines, books, and even telephone directories, turning everyday objects into part of the composition rather than something to hide.
In 2023, Centro Studi Poltronova, working alongside Franco Raggi, faithfully reissued Canton with a philological re-edition. The original design remains untouched, while bold contemporary colour pairings. Red and green. Blue and orange. Available in both positive and negative versions. The result is a timeless icon with renewed energy for contemporary interiors.

This reel celebrates that same transformation. One snap, and Canton appears. Another, and it disappears. Like a drawing stepping out of the page before quietly returning to a single line.
The most memorable design isn’t always the loudest. Sometimes, it changes a space simply by being there.

Designed to rotate, collect, organize and surprise, Cessato Allarme transforms an everyday object into something playful, kinetic and unexpectedly theatrical. Hanging bags suddenly become part of the composition, while its rotating upper section invites interaction almost as if it were asking to be played with.

The Cessato Allarme clothes stand, created in 1986 by the De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi studio and put into production by Poltronova in 1991, takes its name from the Italian expression meaning “All Clear!”—the signal announcing the end of an air-raid alert during World War II. Its inspiration comes from the warning trumpets once mounted on street poles, yet there is nothing military about its character.
Made entirely of painted metal and available in vibrant colours, Cessato Allarme replaces anxiety with optimism. It turns a functional object into a joyful presence, embracing the playful language that has always distinguished Italian design. As Paolo Lomazzi later suggested, its name becomes a metaphorical invitation to “go and blow the trumpets again,” celebrating creativity, freedom and the pleasure of living with design.

More than a coat rack or clothes stand, it is a collectible design object that brings movement into the home. Every rotation changes the composition. Every bag, jacket or hat becomes part of the project. Functional, sculptural and unmistakably Poltronova.
Designed by De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi and produced by Poltronova, Cessato Allarme continues to embody the spirit of innovative Italian furniture design, where irony, experimentation and everyday functionality coexist in a single iconic object.

Some phone calls change your day. Others changed the history of design.

What looks like a playful joke is actually one of the most revolutionary sofas ever conceived.

Originally designed by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova in 1967, Superonda overturned the very idea of what a sofa could be. Rather than prescribing a single way of sitting, it introduced freedom. Made from just two wave-shaped polyurethane blocks, it can be endlessly recomposed into a sofa, a chaise longue, a bed, two independent seats or countless unexpected configurations. There is no “correct” way to use it—only the one you invent.

Created during the birth of the radical Italian design movement, Superonda rejected the rigid functionalism that had defined furniture until then. It transformed the domestic landscape into something fluid, playful and constantly evolving, proving that design could question conventions instead of simply following them.

More than half a century later, Superonda remains one of the most influential icons of twentieth-century design, still produced in Italy by Poltronova with the same experimental spirit that made it a cultural landmark.

And yes… apparently, it still answers calls.

What if a landscape became something you could sit on?

Selected for ESCLUSIVO | INCLUSIVO, the design exhibition by @edit.napoli in collaboration with @jumeirahcapripalace and @comunedianacapri, Terrazzo Quarry by @bethanlaurawood transforms Villa Rosa into an inhabitable landscape where contemporary design meets the Mediterranean setting of Anacapri.

Inspired by the ever-changing compositions of Venetian terrazzo, the collection translates fragments of stone into a vibrant textile and an equally vibrant family of sculptural seating elements. ESCLUSIVO | INCLUSIVO

Some objects don’t simply inhabit a house. They redefine the way we inhabit it.

Selected for ESCLUSIVO | INCLUSIVO, the design exhibition by @edit.napoli in collaboration with @jumeirahcapripalace and @comunedianacapri, Poltronova brings two projects that continue to shape the language of contemporary Italian design inside the historic spaces of @villarosa_anacapri.

Designed by Gianni Pettena in 1967, Rumble originated from the experience of living in a vast nineteenth-century artist’s atelier, where furniture had to respond to the scale of the place rather than that of the human body. More than a sofa, it becomes a playful architectural landscape: a simple form that invites endless possibilities of inhabiting, gathering and interaction.
Alongside it, Ultrafragola, designed by Ettore Sottsass Jr. for Poltronova in 1970, continues to blur the boundaries between mirror, light and object. Originally conceived as part of the Mobili Grigi collection, it has become one of the most recognisable and enduring designs ever produced by Poltronova.

Together, these works naturally engage with the exhibition’s central reflection: that design can simultaneously preserve its uniqueness while remaining open to new interpretations, new contexts and new ways of being experienced.

Some lights illuminate a room. Others illuminate an idea.

Designed by Superstudio for Poltronova in 1967, Passiflora is far more than a table lamp. Born from a painted cardboard prototype created for the legendary Superarchitettura exhibition (1966), one of the founding manifestos of Radical Design, it transformed an experimental object into a luminous domestic sculpture.

Its deformed column oscillates between nature and artifice, creating an object that is both functional and conceptual. Produced in yellow and opaline white PMMA, Passiflora emits a soft, diffused light while preserving the playful ambiguity that defined Superstudio’s revolutionary approach to design. More than fifty years later, it continues to challenge what a lamp can be.

During Milan Design Week 2026, Tomato brought together many of the things we care about most: design history, contemporary culture, craftsmanship, conversation and people.

Originally designed in 1970 by French designer Christian Adam, the Tomato Armchair returned through an exclusive collaboration between @chloe and Poltronova. Developed and produced by Poltronova in collaboration with the designer’s heirs, the project carefully translates Adam’s original vision into contemporary production while preserving its distinctive sculptural identity.
Crafted in naturally tanned leather and available in cream, cognac, sand and black, Tomato transforms a familiar organic form into a soft, oversized seating object that sits somewhere between furniture, sculpture and design statement.
Presented inside Chloé’s boutique on Via della Spiga during Milan Design Week, the project became the setting for an evening of encounters, conversations and shared enthusiasm for design.
Moments like these remind us that design is never only about objects. It is also about the communities that gather around them, the dialogues they generate and the new connections they make possible.

Objects that challenged the conventional idea of furniture through form, scale and behaviour.

Tomato follows the same path. Its soft, sculptural silhouette transforms comfort into something expressive, symbolic and unexpectedly contemporary.

Redeveloping Tomato for contemporary production meant translating a remarkable design from 1970 into today’s manufacturing standards while preserving the integrity of Christian Adam’s original vision. It is this dialogue between archive, research and industrial expertise that allows important projects to return without losing what made them extraordinary in the first place.

Some objects belong to history.

Developed and produced by Poltronova in collaboration with the designer’s heirs, the project has been carefully re-engineered for contemporary production, preserving the integrity of Adam’s original vision while refining its construction through today’s manufacturing techniques.

Crafted in naturally tanned leather, the re-edition is available in four colourways—cream, cognac, sand and black—bringing renewed definition to its soft, sculptural form.

More than a re-edition, Tomato reflects Poltronova’s ongoing commitment to bringing remarkable design back into the present with the same care, research and experimental spirit that shaped it in the first place.

SHADOWS OF A RADICAL ICON. 🖤

At Milan Design Week 2026, the Sanremo Floor Lamp by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova reveals one of the most fascinating aspects of its design: its ability to shape space through shadow as much as through light.
Originally conceived in 1968, during the height of Italy’s Radical Design movement, Sanremo transforms illumination into a visual event. Its transparent elements diffuse light outward, generating graphic, almost botanical shadows that extend across surrounding surfaces and become part of the object itself.
Rather than simply lighting a room, Sanremo creates an atmosphere. Light, reflection and projection interact continuously, blurring the boundaries between functional object, sculpture and environmental installation.
More than five decades after its creation, the lamp remains a powerful expression of the experimental vision that defined Archizoom Associati and helped reshape the language of contemporary Italian design.
A reminder that sometimes the most compelling part of an object is not the object itself, but the space it transforms.

Terrazzo Quarry: a seating system by Bethan Laura Wood for Poltronova

Soft and monumental, the upholstered elements evoke rocks emerging from an imaginary ground, where material and decoration merge.
Configurable as a compact arrangement or scattered across a space, Terrazzo Quarry is a new entry in the Poltronova collection.

The Terrazzo pattern, developed by Bethan Laura Wood in 2022 from a Venetian residency, takes inspiration from seminato floors and translates into an exclusive textile where gem-like fragments surface across the fabric — a “super fake” terrazzo in dialogue with Poltronova’s experimental vision.

For Milan Design Week 2026, the project came to life as an immersive installation at Serapian’s boutique in via della Spiga 42 — created for the Mestieri d’Arte Bokashi SS26 capsule collection, transforming one of Milan’s most iconic addresses into a vibrant, otherworldly landscape.

⬜️ The Crazy Horse table, designed in 1968 by Ettore Sottsass for Poltronova, returns to production in 2025. Its slender laminated top is supported by four bold, painted metal legs. The geometric essentiality of the form plays against the dynamic tilt of the legs—true protagonists of this project named after the iconic Parisian cabaret founded in 1951. This piece feels strikingly contemporary and proves that great design continues to tell stories—beyond trends and passing fads.

⬜️ The Gherpe table lamp does not belong to the traditional typologies of lighting fixtures placed on a surface, due to its form like the shell of a marine creature, and to its use of an industrial material like methacrylate. It represents one of the first examples of an interactive luminous object, which thanks to its relationship with the user is capable of changing its tone: from white light for illumination, to colored light to alter the emotional perception of a space.

⬜️ Domestic space is no longer defined.

Poltronova returns to Salone del Mobile with UN—, an installation that takes shape from a condition that is unstable, open, and in constant transformation.

Following XS from the previous edition, where surface generated space, UN— operates through subtraction: not what is shown, but what remains incomplete, suspended, in progress.

Space no longer presents itself as a finished form, but as a process.

It is constructed as it unfolds.

Joe is a big comfortable chair in the form of a giant baseball glove, mounted on invisible wheels. Inspired by the poetics of Pop Art, the designers gave material form to their admiration for the legendary American baseball player Joe DiMaggio. Through a radical shift in scale, the glove becomes an inhabitable object, bringing a hyperreal image from the world of art into the domestic landscape.
For the fiftieth anniversary of Joe, Poltronova introduced Joe Ball: a leather pouf and footrest shaped like a baseball, designed by D’Urbino and Lomazzi in 2020. Conceived as the natural completion of the armchair, Joe Ball combines comfort, irony and sculptural presence.

Terrazzo Quarry is a sculptural seating system you can inhabit. Designed by Bethan Laura Wood for Poltronova, the project transforms terrazzo into an artificial landscape made of soft, monumental upholstered forms.
Inspired by the endless variations of Venetian terrazzo floors discovered during the designer’s residency in a historic palazzo, the system translates surface into volume and pattern into space. The exclusive textile evokes gemstone fragments escaping from the aggregate, settling across the seating elements like pieces of a psychedelic quarry.

Pluriball: coffee table by Andrea Mancuso, 2026

Pluriball is a table that embodies Poltronova’s experimental and ironic spirit, transforming an everyday pop reference into a design object. Its top is created through the fusion of coloured glass circles onto a transparent glass sheet, generating a three-dimensional surface punctuated by chromatic reliefs that recall bubble wrap.

The process involves an initial fusion of the circles onto transparent glass, followed by their pairing with a second coloured glass sheet. This step introduces a tonal variation that enhances depth and the perception of relief, making the surface more vibrant and layered. Rather than adopting a monomaterial solution, the structure is supported by transparent borosilicate glass legs, which visually lighten the object and emphasize its optical dimension.

The table appears to emerge in space, allowing the top to define rhythm, density, and presence. Colour behaves as a stratification, surfacing through the glass and shifting according to light and viewpoint.

The project unfolds as a family of chromatic variations, including Tangerine, Tuscan Green, Sicilia Bronze, and Pink. In this version, the glossy pink tone amplifies the table’s playful and luminous quality, turning the surface into a field of reflections, bubbles, and chromatic depth.

Pluriball thus takes shape as an active surface, where a repeated gesture becomes structure and detail turns into language.

Originally designed by Franco Raggi in 1988, Canton emerges from a graphic gesture transformed into space. A continuous black line draws two squares connected by a horizontal segment; pulled into three dimensions, that abstract sign becomes a bench.

Conceived for temporary use rather than comfort, Canton sacrifices ergonomics in favour of a rigorous, almost neoplastic presence. The structure functions simultaneously as seat and container: the lateral squares open into compartments designed to host books, magazines, objects, and traces of everyday life.

More than furniture, Canton behaves as a spatial drawing. The object retains the immediacy of a sketch while becoming architecture, structure, and image at once.

Canton transforms a simple line into an inhabitable structure: graphic, architectural, and deliberately uncompromising.

Terrazzo Quarry transforms terrazzo from surface into inhabitable landscape. Conceived as a soft yet monumental seating system, the project unfolds as a cluster of upholstered volumes that can exist as a composed environment or disperse freely throughout space, like fragments of an imaginary quarry.

Developed by Bethan Laura Wood following her residency in a Venetian palazzo, the exclusive upholstery originates from an obsession with the endless variations of traditional terrazzo floors. Here, gemstone-like fragments appear to detach themselves from the aggregate, surfacing as chromatic eruptions across the fabric.

The project blurs the boundary between pattern and architecture, between two-dimensional illusion and physical volume. The elements resemble artificial rocks emerging from a psychedelic terrain, inviting interaction, climbing, gathering, and rest.

Described by the designer as a “super fake” terrazzo, Terrazzo Quarry embraces artifice as language. Material becomes narrative, decoration becomes topography, and the domestic landscape turns into an immersive, playful environment that echoes the radical visions embedded within the Poltronova archive.

During Milano Design Week 2026, Poltronova extended its presence across the city, entering different contexts and activating new spatial narratives.
At Palazzo Litta, within MoscaPartners Variations – Metamorphosis, an open composition of Poltronova icons inhabited the Sala Rossa as a dynamic, non-hierarchical system.
Not a fixed display, but a constellation of forms, colours and attitudes: objects in dialogue, constructing the space through accumulation, intensity and transformation.

Poltronova: More than More.

During Milano Design Week 2026, Poltronova extended its presence across the city, entering different contexts and activating new spatial narratives.
At Palazzo Litta, within MoscaPartners Variations – Metamorphosis, an open composition of Poltronova icons inhabited the Sala Rossa as a dynamic, non-hierarchical system.
Not a fixed display, but a constellation of forms, colours and attitudes: objects in dialogue, constructing the space through accumulation, intensity and transformation.

Pluriball: coffee table by Andrea Mancuso, 2026

Pluriball is a table that embodies Poltronova’s experimental and ironic spirit, transforming an everyday, pop reference into a design object. The top is created through the fusion of coloured glass circles onto a transparent glass sheet, generating a three-dimensional surface punctuated by chromatic reliefs that recall bubble wrap.

The process involves an initial fusion of the circles onto transparent glass, followed by their pairing with a second coloured glass sheet. This step introduces a tonal variation that enhances depth and the perception of reliet, making the surface more vibrant and layered. Rather than adopting a monomaterial solution, the structure is supported by transparent borosilicate glass legs, which visually lighten the object and emphasize its optical dimension.

The table appears to emerge in space, allowing the top to define rhythm, density, and presence. The surface operates through a relationship of tones: the base, lighter and slightly opaline, hosts bubbles of a more intense colour, generating a variable sense of depth. Colour behaves as a stratification, emerging through the glass and shifting according to light and viewpoint.

The project unfolds as a family of chromatic variations, including Tangerine, Tuscan Green, and Sicilia Bronze, each capable of altering the perception of the object-making it more vibrant, more atmospheric, or more material. In every version, the dialogue between surface and bubbles remains central, defining a balance between rhythm, light, and three-dimensionality.

Pluriball thus takes shape as an active surface, where a repeated gesture becomes structure and detail turns into language.

At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Poltronova brought together historical icons and new productions inside an UN—defined environment: unstable, open, unfinished.

In this temporary landscape, objects are not isolated pieces. They compose the space. They activate it. They transform it by being there.

Ultrafragola, designed by Ettore Sottsass jr. in 1970, meets Terrazzo Quarry, the new seating system by Bethan Laura Wood, 2025.
Two different moments in Poltronova’s history. One shared condition.

At Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, Poltronova presented an installation shaped by subtraction, instability and transformation.
An UN—defined domestic landscape, where surfaces opened, structures remained exposed, and objects became part of a space in progress.

Not a finished interior. Not a fixed scenario. A temporary state.

UN— was conceived as a place where Poltronova’s radical heritage meets a new generation of design: historical icons, re-editions and new projects coexisting inside the same unfinished story.

Because after UN—, space keeps changing.
 And so does Poltronova.

Featuring Archizoom Associati, Nigel Coates, De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi, Gianfranco Fini, Andrea Mancuso, Franco Raggi, Ettore Sottsass jr., Superstudio, Bethan Laura Wood.
Following XS, where surface generated space, UN— operates through subtraction, not what is shown, but what remains incomplete, suspended, in progress. Space no longer presents itself as a finished form, but as a process built as it unfolds.
UN— marks a new phase for Poltronova. Alongside historical icons, a new generation of projects interprets the present through experimental, ironic, and radical languages. New productions by Bethan Laura Wood and Andrea Mancuso open a path beyond re-edition.
Under the creative direction of Donatello D’Angelo, the installation becomes an UN—finished environment in constant mutation. There is no definitive form. Only temporary states.
On display includes Ultrafragola, Superonda, Gherpe, Joe, Canton and more alongside new productions Terrazzo Quarry, Pluriball, Regolo, Plasma and Safari in new upholsteries.
A renewed focus on customisation introduces variable configurations and a more direct relationship between object and user. Miniatures and objects expand the reflection on scale, perception, and reality.

Fantasticamente effervescenti, curated by Maria Teresa Feraboli with exhibition design by Andrea Gianni, takes the public beyond the object, tracing a creative trajectory that has redefined spatial possibilities and transformed the way domestic environments are experienced.
Before forming as a group in 1966, the three designers initiated a sharp critique of traditional housing typologies, with a clear aim: to free the home from the rigidity of rooms and restore flexibility and freedom to interior spaces. From holiday houses such as Villa Panceri on the island of Elba, to the retirement home on Via Leone XIII in Milan, and on to pneumatic structures and the project of a residential hypercube for 1,500 people, their work moves between pragmatism and vision, in a continuous process of experimentation that also implies an awareness of environmental concerns.
Their informal, affordable, and transformable objects — including the Joe armchair and the Joe Ball footstool — became a manifesto of their commitment to redefining domestic space, allowing inhabitants to shape their environment with freedom, pleasure, and a sense of play.

Inside Andrea Branzi by Toyo Ito. A Continuous Present at @triennalemilano, a key chapter of Radical Design unfolds through more than sixty years of Andrea Branzi’s research, interpreted through the vision of Toyo Ito.
The exhibition traces a biographical journey from Archizoom and Superarchitettura to Branzi’s anthropological approach to design. Themes of fragility, hybridization, ecology, and coexistence shape a fluid exhibition conceived as a continuous present. Over 400 works. Installations, objects, models, drawings, videos, and archival materials build an evolving landscape of ideas.
Within this radical moment, Poltronova’s dialogue with Archizoom emerges.

Casa Italia returned to the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026.
A project by CONI – the Italian National Olympic Committee that brought together culture, hospitality and Olympic values. Three venues — Milan, Livigno, Cortina — one shared vision. The theme MUSA celebrated Italy as a source of inspiration, creativity and beauty.
In this context, Poltronova contributed to Casa Italia with two white Superonda sofas and a green Rumble sofa, shaping informal and dynamic spaces where sport, culture and contemporary design met.
On the occasion of the XXV Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026, Casa Italia stood as the symbolic place of Italian excellence, a space of encounter between culture, vision and Olympic values.
A project by CONI, Casa Italia interpreted and told the story of the country’s identity through hospitality and the values of sport, art, architecture and design.
Present in three key locations — Triennale Milano, the Aquagranda Olympic Preparation Centre in Livigno, and Farsettiarte in Cortina d’Ampezzo — Casa Italia welcomed Italy Team athletes, partners and an international audience, offering an experience that conveyed Italy’s cultural heritage to the world.
The project was developed under the coordination of Lorenzo Pellicelli, within a unified vision that connected the different venues.

IO SONO UN ARCHITETTO. ETTORE SOTTSASS

From 7 March to 26 July 2026, Palazzo Buontalenti in Pistoia presents a major exhibition dedicated to Ettore Sottsass, one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century architecture and design.
Painter, graphic designer, photographer and visionary designer, Sottsass (1917–2007) moved through the entire twentieth century with a perspective that was critical, observant and deeply sensitive to the cultural and social changes of his time.

Curated by Enrico Morteo and organised by @pistoiamusei, @fondazionecaript with @electaeditore, the exhibition explores three decades of Sottsass’s work. From the immediate post-war years to the early 1970s. Drawings, photographs, ceramics, objects and archival materials reveal the development of his ideas, many of them presented to the public for the first time.
Special attention is given to Sottsass’s relationship with Tuscany and with the artisans and companies that helped shape his vision.  Projects developed with Poltronova — including Ultrafragola, Crazy Horse, Califfo and Superbox — stand as iconic examples of a design language grounded in experimentation, colour and symbolic form.
The exhibition presents both original pieces and archival materials preserved at @csac_parma and within the Centro Studi Poltronova Archive.
